She handed me a baby goat.
I was at a client's farm - an agritourism operation outside the city. Real land, real animals, rows of flowers that stretched further than I could see from the gate. And there I was, holding a goat that had decided I was acceptable company.
You cannot force that to happen.
You cannot grab a baby goat. You cannot rush it, will it into your arms, or convince it through sheer effort. You create the right environment. You move slowly. You stay consistent. And eventually it comes to you on its own.
I kept thinking about that on the drive home.
Because that is exactly how consistent marketing for small business works.
Most Businesses Try to Grab Their Way to Clients
More posts. More ads. More outreach. More speed, more hustle, more volume.
The goat does not care. Neither does your market.
If your marketing has ever felt like a hamster wheel you can't get off, this is part of the reason. Effort without consistency disappears. Speed without a system gets you nowhere. You put in the work and nothing compounds - because there is no plan connecting one action to the next.
The Farm Had Everything — Except a System to Share It
My client had something remarkable.
The experience she was building on that farm - walking through the garden rows, holding an animal, slowing down for a few hours in the middle of a busy week - was not something she had added on top of the business. It was the business. The story was the work.
She just had no system to share it.
Her marketing looked like most small business marketing: sporadic. She posted when she had time. She reached out when she remembered. Good content. No cadence. Real work that kept disappearing into the void because nothing ran consistently. She was doing everything right in the wrong order.
A Farm Runs on Seasons. So Does Consistent Marketing.
You plant. You tend. You wait. You harvest - in that order, every time.
You do not plant randomly and hope for a crop. The system is not optional. It is the whole thing.
Consistent marketing for small business works exactly the same way. Random activity gives you random results. A system gives you a harvest you can count on. The businesses that grow steadily are not doing more - they are doing the same things, on schedule, every time.
That is the whole game. It always has been.
What Happened When We Built the System
We built a system around her story.
Consistent message. Consistent audience. Consistent follow-through. We identified who her people were and where to find them. We gave her content a cadence so it could actually build something instead of starting from scratch every week.
We focused on staying consistent on the channels that mattered rather than showing up everywhere at once. One thing, done well, on a schedule.
Today she runs a full event venue on top of the farm. What started as help getting her story out became something bigger - because when the right story finds the right audience at the right pace, it takes off.
That is the transformation. Not overnight. Not from one great post. Season by season.
What Environment Are You Building?
You cannot grab your way to good marketing.
You build the right environment. You show up consistently. You let it come to you.
If you are not sure where your marketing system is breaking down, the free marketing assessment is a good place to start. Nine questions, ten minutes, and a clear picture of where the gaps are.
Or if you are ready to build the system, here is how we work together.
